Re : Asco on silene
This is on the stem, yes? Is it an area above the timberline?

With this spore size I find only one species on Silene with such a spore size in my database, Pyrenopeziza capsulicola Petrak. The detailed but unillustrated description inludes a fungus of about 0.5 mm diam. on dead, dry capsules of Silene acaulis at an alpine site in Tirol; but the 19-26 x 5-6.5 µm large, ellipsoid-clavate-fusoid spores are said to be non-septate. Ascus reaction not stated.

Re : Asco on silene
Dear Zotto,

Thank you for the reply, hmm yes than it may be a different species, i had hard find anything possible and dident know this species you meantion.

The fungus manily grow on the top leaf and top of plant, but also steam i see.

This was above the tree line but some Sorbus was seen at the locality. But it was in a coold alpine habitat i would say and no betula was at the locality, about 450 m over sea in an mountain area.

best regards,

Robin

Re : Asco on silene
I know P. capsulicola was only briefly mentioned by Hütter 1958, so it might be it has never been reexamined or recollected. Given the same host plant I would still consider that it could be this species. Checking the type would reveal if there are really no spore septa and clarify the ascus amyloidity.

Dear Zotto,

I have been of grid for some days, ahh then i maybe could order the type and check it in december. Realy interesting. I will se if i also could sequnce it. Do you know where the type is located?

Re : Asco on silene
I did write a lengthy answer concerning the holotype, but when I sent it, it went to Nirvana...

So here again a summary:

Petrak distributed this obvious rich collection in his Mycotheca Generalis as #187.

The copy in BPI bears a stamp "Type":

But also S claims that its copy is the type:

a more authentic specimen with Petrak's handwriting but labeled "isotype" is in UC:

Petrak's herbarium is in W, but P.c. is not listed in their database (not even from the exsiccata series).

Hütter may have also examined an exemplar from the exsiccata series.

So where is the proper holotype?

Regards

Martin

Re : Asco on silene
I assume Petrak is in Wien (or Graz?). But it could be that the collection has duplicates in other herbaria (e.g. as exsiccatum). Ah, Martin answered.

Re : Asco on silene
By the way, the site is above my hometown where I was born. It is about 2250m AMSL-

The red line indicates the path to the "Pfeishütte" (to the east).
