Capitotricha bicolor ?
Ethan Crenson, 16-03-2025 17:15
Hi all,

Found recently in a wooded park in New York City, among hardwoods including Quercus, Liriodendron, Liquidambar, Prunus. These were on a well rotted branch. My sense is that they are Capitotricha bicolor, but I'm not entirely sure, especially because I detect croziers at the ascus base. I did not find clusters of crystals at the hair ends, though there are crystals among hairs and elsewhere.

Spores hyaline, fusiform, 5.0-9.8 x 1.8-2.5µm

Asci IKI+, with apparent croziers (see photo), 45-50 x 4-4.5µm

Hairs are septate, minutely warted, encrusted with what appear to be crystals, occasionally inflated at the ends.

Paraphyses narrow, projecting above the asci up to 10µm.

Thank you in advance,

Ethan

Re : Capitotricha bicolor ?
Merci Ethan
Cependant on  ne peut pas retenir Capitotricha vu l'absence de paraphyses lanceolées
Il semble qu"il faille se pencher sur le genre Arachnopeziza ou Arachnoscypha dont les caractères conviennent mieux. Possible Arachnopeziza trabinelloides ??

Re : Capitotricha bicolor ?
Alain,

Thank you for your reply.  I think that Arachnopeziza trabinelloides would have 1-septate spores. I neglected to mention that these spores are aseptate.  By coincidence, I found Arachnopeziza trabinelloides in a local park just yesterday.

The yellowish disc is strange, otherwise it reminds me of Dasyscyphella nivea.
