Scutellinia heterosphaera?
Malcolm Greaves, 26-07-2017 00:59
Malcolm GreavesI found a number of these Scutellinia along ruts created by heavy machinery in a mixed woodland.
Up to 4mm across. With round spores having both pointed and rounded warts up to 2um high some with fine ridges between the warts I was expecting other details to confirm this was the as yet unpublished Scutellinia heterosphaera which I have found in other woodlands not too far from this area.
Unfortunately this was not the case. The spores were 16.5 - 21 which is too big for S heterosphaera and the hairs at up to 1200 x 24 were far too big for either species.
I took a spore drop to make sure they were not immature and just giving incorrect readings but they all turned out the same from each of the 4 specimens I examined.
The asci are up to 320 which again possibly points to S barlae.
Can anyone offer advice?
Thanks
Mal
