Thanks Andy for this article which I did not know. Interesting, that Microglossum needs to be more and more split into species. What I regret is that no microphotos were supplied, and for one species not even a macrophoto. I would appreciate that the Code demands at least one illustration for a valid description. I also miss the study of the ascus croziers. Well, nobody is perfect, but here I think a redescription of fresh material is necessary. I also wonder what means "hyaline or with lipid bodies" for the spores, I think they mean a homogeneous or guttulate sporoplasm, which would mean that the authors uncritically mixed living and dead spores.

from my discussions with Viktor I gathered that he works always (or mainly) with dead material. So those "up to 4 lipid bodies" might perhaps represent rather fresh (but nevertheless dead) exsiccates, where the LBs didn't yet completely coagulate to one big LB but the spores also aren't multiguttulate anymore. But yes, using "hyaline" for describing the spore contents instead of the spore wall color is not very common in my (very limited indeed) experience.

I also imagine that Victor does not study fresh samples. Microglossum was always woith large globose LBs in the living spores, never multiguttulate as some Geoglossum. Yes, I suppose that spores survive some months or longer in the herbarium.
