Hi Elisabeth,
thanks for showing us your finding, all Unguiculariopsis species are rare and I have never seen this one. According to Zhuang the Identification is correct.

wundervole Fotos!

Michel

Hi Michel
I had the same idea. I strongly suppose that no sequence exists. I am only reluctant until I see the first sequences from Somiedo. I fear Kadri gets overloaded. But we can ask her.

Merci Elisabeth,
Zotto, I share your fear, i'm afraid it's abit too late to avoid overloading her anyway after the Somiedo harvest, !
But as the species -if actually geneticaly different from other round spored Unguiculariopsis - seems so rare, it'sworth trying as this is one among her top topics. I was about to write to her anyway and will carefully try to avoid any supplementary pressure -:)

Re : Unguiculariopsis
I collected in La Peral an Unguiculariopsis with ellipsoid spores which she also wanted to have. It is still here and will be sent to her with a dozen other samples in the future....

it would be great if all this knowledge could be combined, I have U. ilicincola and U robergei from this spring ready for PCR

Re : Unguiculariopsis
Dear all,
I'm continuing to work with lichenicolous Helotiales, but as several of them are related to non-lichenicolous Unguiculariopsis, I am collecting sequence data from non-lichenicolous Unguiculariopsis as well. The preliminary results show that Unguiculariopsis seems to be polyphyletic even within the recently resurrected family Cordieritideaceae. Thus I'm really interested in any new collections which I can use for DNA extraction and sequencing
kind regards, Ave Suija

Dear Ave
I am happy you are interested in this genus. Did you find that Unguiculariopsis forms several lineages within this family, or also outside?

Dear Ave ,
further to Kadri's answer last night, Elisabeth will send it to her. She told me that you also work as a colleague of her in Tartu.
Thanks, Stip , for sharing interest and your own collections

Dear Zotto,
except the single sequence from GenBank representing Unguiculariopsis damingshanica, all the rest seem to be members of Cordieritideaceae. But I have data only from eleven species.
best, Ave.

Re : Unguiculariopsis
I agree with Ave in the opinion that Unguiculariopsis will be polyphyletic, my expectations are that there will be the Lichenicolous and Fungicolous lineages in the Cordieritideaceae where the fungicolous lineage will go together with Hyphodiscus stereicola etc.

Re : Unguiculariopsis
Indeed this damingshanica SSU is quite distant to anything but seems related to Dothideomycetes, perhaps a contamination?
Interesting that two groups are formed.

Re : Unguiculariopsis
Dear Stip,
I have not analysed the data in point of view of substrate preferences, but I think there are some ecological segregation indeed. But I am not sure it so simple. I somehow forgot Hyphodiscus stereicola, it will be interesting to include.

Re : Unguiculariopsis
Dear Zotto,
the SSU of damingshanica might be a contamination indeed, but I have seen that it clusters within Helotiales. Thus the only way to solve it is to get another specimen.

Re : Unguiculariopsis
Hello
I made early may 2017 a collection of Unguiculariopsis ilicincola on dead stem of Yucca gloriosa, still attached to the plant, in Ré island, France (atlantic ocean).
I already collected it in november 2009 on same plant, in Oléron island, sister island of Ré, Michel probably remembers it, we studied it together in Nantes.
I can share these collections.
cheers
François

Hi Francois,
Great!
Still on the plants at parking? The most stable collecting site I know, since 2006 i recall findings in 2008 and 2011 too. Unguiculariopsis seems to like the ocean ;-)
Amités,
Stip

Oui François bien sur , je l'ai trouvé plusieurs fois depuis.
Yes Stip, there are several places on Ré with strange landscapes : bienvenue à Yuccaland !
Another Ungui. in not uncommon on Ré , on Suaeda , which was also found by Zotto I think during a Mellasco meeting. U. castanea cf.
(I also remember on that day , you made the whole group wait for a long time in the bus while you had disappeared, Stip... ! Not such a bad souvenir, anyway)

Yes, Michel, this was in 2008, and "Dasyscyphus" castaneus grew there on Suaeda with Stictis ?stellata as always, but also U. ilicincola was present!
