When searching for more specimens of the un-named Cheilymenia posted earlier I found this single specimen on a recent bonfire site. With its split side it looked like an Otidea of some sort. It was dark brown/purple so was a good fit for what used to be Otidea violacea. The spores were bi-guttulate, had a granular surface and were 13-14 x 6.3-7. The ascii turned blue in Meltzer and the paraphyses were slightly swollen and filled with a brown matter. This is a good fit for Peziza violacea but it seems to have many names. Can anyone confirm the current name for this species?

About P. violacea - while describing nomina nova P. subviolacea & P. sublilacina, Svrcek wrote: "At the present time it is impossible to say what Persoon's Peziza violacea might be." I wonder if anything changed since then (e.g. rediscovered and revised type material).

PS: I wonder why it seems impossible to use some letters here. I'm not surprised about east- and south-slavic letters with different diacritic, but even the "mju" (mikron) sign?

This collection might represent P. tenacella because the spores seem ornamented (a photo in CB would be useful to confirm that).
Peziza violacea Pers. must be rejected because there are several violet Peziza species growing on burnt places, and it's impossible to say which species was described by Persoon (and I think there is no type material).
