Arachnopeziza aurelia ?
Ethan Crenson, 31-05-2017 04:47
In New York City, Inwood Hill Park (Upper Manhattan), a friend handed me these.  Apothecia are small–the largest pictured here is 2mm–with orange hairs and a tan hymenium.  Asci, about 80 - 83µm by 7.5µm. Spores mostly 3 septate 17 - 20µm by 5µm.  Paraphyses are septate.  I was not immediately able to get many measurements or mount in Lugol's.  Is this enough information to make a determination?  Can this be Arachnopeziza aurelia?  Please let me know if I should provide other details.  Many thanks.

I agree. You can try to see the long spore appendages which should be visible on freshly ejected spores but also insider the living asci. They are visible without staining, but you can test with Cresyl blue or other aqueous basic dyes.
