Louis DENYBonjour forumSur tronc décortiqué de feuillu x,
Hairy Bitunicate on living Viburnum lantanoides leaves

Two days ago I collected this on the underside of living leaves of Viburnum lantanoides at the Caledonia Gorge in New Brunswick, Canada.
The ascomata are subglobose and quite hairy. The ascomata sit superficially amongst the leaf trichomes and on the surface. There is no obvious leaf spotting.
Ascomata: black, subglobose (250x300u) and hairy, superficial amongst leaf trichomes. Peridium forming a textura angularis. Hairs are tortuous, brown, septate and smooth.
Asci: broadly clavate, 135-145x24u, bitunicate
Pseudoparaphyses: not evident
Spores: hyaline, broadly fusoid, 5-7 septate (large globules in each cell), 50-60x7-8u, often constricted at the 4th septum.
It seems to be common in this area but I can't find a genus for this entity. In the meantime I call it Byssosphaeria sp.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Sincerely.
Adrian Carter
