I found this small discomycete on a very rotten small decorticated, deciduous branch on the ground in mixed forest with Betula, Sorbus and Ilex outside Bergen at the Norwegian west coast. I believe it is Dematioscypha olivacea, and hope someone can confirm this based on the enclosed description and photos.
Disc 0.3 mm diam., grey-brown, surrounded by dark hyphomycete. Microscopy based on water mount of fresh material found in September 2025: Hairs hyaline, thin-walled, cylindric, straight, blunt, 3-septate, 63-83 x 2,3-3,0 µm. Minor amount of light-colored exudate may be observed on the upper part of some of the hairs, however, hard to confirm with certainty. Based on the macro-photo, the hairs look glued together into larger units. Asci 37-44 x 4,1-5,4 µm, cylindric, without croziers based on my interpretation. Sp. 6,6-7,7 x 2,1-2,6 µm; Q=2,7-3,3.
None of the Dematioschypha species has been found in Norway so far. The lack of larger amounts of exudate makes it difficult to follow the key in Raitviir's monograph from 2004.

Was this collected in early spring? My idea is Psilocistella quercina which I know from autumn and with croziers. The same for P. variepilosa.

Psilocistella quercina should have shorter and aseptate hairs and larger ascospores; 20-43 µm and 7-12 x 2-3 µm, respectively.
Psilocistella variepilosa ? Resinoscypha variepilosa (R. Galán & Raitv.) T. Kosonen, Huhtinen & K. Hansen, Persoonia 46: 58 (2020) - should have longer (multiseptate) hairs up to 100 µm, and shorter asci 26-33 x 4-6 µm. The drawing of the apothecia given in FoF number 14073 does also not fit to my picture of the apothecia.
Based on my interpretation, the coexistence of dark hyphomycete surrounding the apothecia points in direction of Dematioscypha. Could you explain why you rule out any of the species in this genus?

You may be right, although I see no difference between hairs up to 83 µm and 3-septate, and up to 100 µm and 2-4-septate in Huhtinen. Kosonen's drawing shows asci up to 40 µm.
P. quercina also has septate hairs, see Quijada or my drawing.
But if your asci are really simple-septate (I do not see it clearly) it could be olivacea. The excipulum of olivacea (name!) is light to dark brown and the hairs often bear yellow exudate. A small fragment of brown tissue is seen on your pics. So I think I agree with olivacea as most probable option. You did not study the anamorph?

To answer your requests, I have studied a new ascocarp from the dried collection. Microscopy was based on water mount and shows the dark brown textura prismatica ectal exipulum, and hairs covered with yellow exudate. Treatment with Melzer gave no color reaction (MLZ-). I have also added a picture of the companion Haplographium anamorph. Asci septation has been studied after Congored/SDS treatment. I hope the enclosed photos confirm the simple-septate asci and give you the needed info to conclude.
