A Pyrenomycete sprouting sparsely but very densely on the surface of small rosemary twigs in decaying soil. The ascomata are mucronate, black grains that burst through the bark, measuring between 0.3 and 0.4 mm. The asci are octosporic and do not react with Melzer's reagent. The filiform paraphyses protrude above the level of the asci, enveloped in a gelatinous matrix.
Ascospores, at least within the ascus, are enclosed in a mucilaginous sheath, fusiform, with a prominent central septum and four large lipid droplets inside. The measurements of the free-floating mature spores in water are:
(22.2) 22.9 - 26.8 (28.7) × (6) 6.4 - 7.6 (8.2) µm
Q = (2.9) 3.2 - 4 (4.5) ; N = 30
Me = 24.6 × 6.9 µm ; Qe = 3.6
Based on these characteristics, I'm considering a Leptosphaeriaceae, though I'm not entirely certain.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards.
