Hi everyone, I found this weird asco growing on wood in a root hole, and I have no clue what it is.
Spores: 20–31.7 × 4.7–6.4 µm
Asci: IKI+ with croziers
Here’s the iNat post with photos and microscopy: https://www.inaturalist.ca/observations/318343963
Any idea what it could be?
Thank you!

Re : Unknown asco found in a root hole
Clearly overmature, the spores are probably non-septate when mature but get 3-septate when producing conidia. The apical ring is not very typical but I suggest searching in Rutstroemiaceae although the apos are very small and unusual and the ectal excipulm very short-celled.

Re : Unknown asco found in a root hole
Thanks, Zotto. I appreciate the suggestion; it's the first time I've observed ascospores producing conidia in this manner. I will certainly search in Rutstroemiaceae further.
