Ascobolus ?
Mirek Gryc, 01-07-2022 16:02
Hello everyone.
I would like to consult with you regarding the designation of my Ascobolus collection. They grew on wet leaves.
In my opinion, the size of the spores fits more to A. foliicola?
In the forum, however, there was often talk of a brown color of ectal excipulum cells. In this case, I did not observe anything like that.
I measured all the spores that were properly arranged, I did not choose the biggest! In my opinion, their dimensions are too large for A. lignatilis.
Regards
Mirek

Probably the same species presented by Zuzana:

Re : Ascobolus ?
Hi Nicolas.
However, I see one difference: the Zuzana collection is probably dry and mine is still alive: D
I gathered them yesterday but I haven't seen purple spores yet. Today, the Hymenium has already darkened and the spores can be seen in the pictures.

The continuation will happen so I hope that we will see how they will look in a day or two?

Ascobolus observation during puberty is very interesting.

Thank you Nicolas.

Re : Ascobolus ?
I'm going back to the topic because I forgot to ask about one more detail. As you probably noticed, Brummelen in your monograph Ascobolus in the drawings of the spores on some species marked something in the form of protruding perispore.
In the drawings of A. foliicola spores, this detail is not in the Brummelen monograph and my collection is in every free spore.
What do you think this feature is important?
