This small Mollisia, 1-2 mm, from Morocco was growing on Prunus lusitanica branch. Ectal excipulum brown from base to margin, with textura angularis, with somewhat more elongated cells at the margin, but without forming cylindrical cells. Medullar excipulum with textura intricata, hyaline too. Subhimenium also hyaline. Paraphysis with 1 single BV that occupies the entire terminal cell, KOH -. Asci octosporic, with croziers, euamiloyd. Cylindrical spores with small LBs at the ends, (8.1) 8.8 - 10 (11.9) × (2.5) 2.6 - 3 (3.1) µm; Q = (2.9) 3.1 - 3.8 (4.2); N = 45; Me = 9.4 × 2.8 µm; Qe = 3.4.

With these micro I come to M. melaleuca, but I see longer spores in the biblio than mine. Other nearby species that I arrive at are M. peruni, M. rivularis and M. cinerea.

The asci and paraphyses are too small on these pics, so I wasn't sure about the VBs. I saw only a few short ones, so I thought a Pyrenopehziza. But you are probably right. This could be something of the Phialocephala clade, like P. oblonga.

With Tanney et al 2016 I think it fits Ok with P. oblonga, although my spores are a little smaller ((8.1) 8.8 - 10 (11.9) × (2.5) 2.6 - 3 (3.1) µm; Q = (2.9) 3.1 - 3.8 (4.2); N = 45; Me = 9.4 × 2.8 µm; Qe = 3.4) than Tanney's ((8–)9–11.5(–17) x (2.5–)3–3.5(–4) mm).

But I do not understand this in the description of Tanney: "pore amyloid in Melzer's reagent or Lugol's solution with 5% KOH pretreatment (hemiamyloid), protoplasm turning brick red (7D7) in Lugol's solution". In the pictures I do not see the hemiamyloid reaction of asci pore.

My asci pore is euamyloid and the protoplasm turning brick red in IKI.

I think Joey Tanney does not well understand hemiamyloidity. I told him this mistake some time ago, and now in the new paper (link of Martin) it reads: pore amyloid in Melzer's reagent or Lugol's solution with 5 % KOH pretreatment (euamyloid). - So I explained him that euamyloidity cannot be tested merely by iodine after KOH. I hope this will be corrected. I actually saw this articele only thanks Researchgate, and because it is a preview, I started reviewing it. This version is still without plates and trees.

Phialocephala oblonga is a choice, but I feel a little unable to identify these species without anamorph or DNA. Perhaps some time I will learn some minute differences, not sure.
