Hypoxylon/Nemania?
Mirek Gryc, 30-03-2020 10:57
Hello all
I have a problem with Hypoxylon growing on Acer branches. However, I am not sure of the substrate because Fraxinus branches also lay nearby. This substrate, however, is unlikely.
I can't show Asci. Sporocarps very mature and only spores in the preparation.
I microscoped several fruitbodies. In part I met with conidiospores. Similarly, they appear in Hypoxylon macrocarpum but the dimensions of mine are definitely larger than those given for this species.
Maybe I'm not looking for genus? ... maybe Nemania?

This is not clearly seen in the pictures, but the spores contain a large number of tiny oil droplets, arranged in polar directions.

Spores: Me = 20.2 × 10.3 µm ; Qe = 2

Thank you in advance for your help.
Mirek

Re : Hypoxylon/Nemania?

Hi,

I think you should compare to Hypoxylon fraxinophilum, occuring, of course, on Fraxinus.

Re : Hypoxylon/Nemania?
Hi Alain
Your suggestion makes sense.
I will check for certainty some characteristic details that I have not observed, but appear in the description of this species.
Conidiospores were probably accidentally applied to Hypoxylon sporocarps? ... maybe during transport?
I have just researched another collection of the same species found elsewhere ... I did not observe conidiospores.
Thank you
Mirek

Re : Hypoxylon/Nemania?
Alain, you were right about the substrate.
Next to it I found Hypoxylon cercidicola and this one grows into Fraxinus.
Once again, thank you and best regards.
Mirek.
