Thelebolus?
Maria Plekkenpol, 30-12-2019 23:34
Maria PlekkenpolOn dung (deer), I think it might be a Thelebolus, but I am not sure? Asci cylindrical to clavate, "plump" but ending long and thin. I couldn't find croziers. Paraphyses very hard to see, it looked as if the material was clumped together. Very thin, many septa and very twisted and forked. Are the things I see sticking out conidia?

Spores ovoid, filled with drops that stayed after KOH. (10,6) 12-13 x 5,5-6,3, quite large.

I saw little reaction in Lugol?

Can someone help me with this one? Thanks!!

Re : Thelebolus?
Isn't it a thallus around? It looks to me like a lichen, though with weak IKI reaction.

Re : Thelebolus?
Your mushroom does not look like a Thelebolus; maybe as Hans says it could be apothecia linked to a lichen, but in my opinion it lacks maturity; did you also react to the Melzer?

Michel.

Re : Thelebolus?
Thank you both for your help! I didn't try Meltzer yet, will do that today. What should I see or not see in Meltzer other then the Lugol reaction?

I have been mistaken about lichens a couple of times already. Maybe a stupid question, but through what can one easily see it's a lichen?

Thank you!
Regards, Maria

Re : Thelebolus?
It looks like a lichen of the genus Micarea, although lugol reaction is not clear. Perhaps it is a bit old the reactive.

Re : Thelebolus?
Melzers on lichens is probematic because most species react hemiamyloid, which is why lichenologists do not use MLZ. If you try that you should first put an apo in 1-3% KOH and then wash with water. After that you can add MLZ. MLZ directly will probably cause a faint reaction only.
