Hello everybody,

I have another collection where I was not able to find a good match so far.
Maybe I can get some ideas here.

Ecology: lying branch of Fagus.

Macro:
Stromata 2-9 mm long, 1.5-2.5 mm broad and about 2 mm high, erupting from decorticated wood, with a dark brown to black surface. Ostiolar necks up to 0.9 mm long and 0.2 mm diameter, cruciform. Perithecia embedded in whitish tissue, about 0.4-0.6 mm in diameter.

Micro:
Asci stalked, Melzer+, with a spore bearing part of 26-33 x 6.5-7 µm. Spores allantoid, smooth, aseptate, brownish, with greenish oildrops, 7.5-9(-10) x 2.0-2.4 µm.

Thank you for the suggestion!

With my spore measurements (too small) I did not arrive at this species.

Maybe I repeat the measurement trying some other (more mature?) Perithecia.

Are the ostiolar necks that long in E. leprosa? Or just very variable?

Otherwise, the macroscopic description in "Rappaz" would fit quite well.

Hi Stefan,

I also came across this fungus, also on rotten wood of Fagus, and I know a collection from Czech Republic.

Its stromata erumpent from rotten decorticated wood and its long ostioles are distinctive.

Likely an Eutypella but as you say not matching well a known species. It might be an undescribed species but it may also have been described in another genus.

If you have the opportunity, it would be interesting to isolate and to sequence it.
