Hi, my eye fell on a dead stalk of a herbaceous plant (Foeniculum or Ferula) with several gregarious fruiting bodies measuring 1-1.5mm wide, somewhat finely velvety and dull olive green. A transversal slice reveal a white matrix, with some lacunae at the periphery. I was wondering if this is an asco (likely) or myxo (hmmm...) and if it is interesting to investigate. Some compound structures (like a grape-cluster of 8-15 of these simple bodies) were also observed but maybe they are different and lets focus on the simple organisms.

I had the time to investigate this fungus and here are some more images
1 + 2. Ascocarps on a dead stalk, mixed with another pyrenomycete arranged in clusters (or is it the same species?!?) - 0.16mm per division
3. Close up of ascocarp dissected transversall. Note the globular bodies ("lacunae") inside
4 + 5 . Section reveals a velvety peridium and compact solid matrix, and many globular lacunae filled with softer tissue.
6 - 9. Velvety hyphae of peridium - short, entangled, septate, irregularly coiled, 2-3um wide, dull olive green.
10 - 11. Transversal section of ascocarp at low magnification. The lacunae have no asci - immature?
Can these images provide some further clues re the identity of this strange ascocarp from MALTA (17-10-2019). Is it an immature pyrenomycete ???
