Asexual morph on Fagus
Gernot Friebes, 13-02-2017 13:44
Hi,

I'm looking for help with this nice species. I found it on a dead twig of Fagus sylvatica. The individual conidia measure about 3-5 µm in length. Not much more to say about it that isn't shown on the photos but I will be glad to try to provide further information if needed.

Thank you and best wishes,
Gernot

Hi Gernot,

Did you compare with Cheirospora botryospora ?

Alain

Re : Asexual morph on Fagus
Hi Alain,

I knew I had seen it before and now I remember that Lothar has shown it recently! http://ascofrance.com/search_forum/46101

Walter, soll ich dir das Material trotzdem schicken?

I will have to check the host again, it is possible that I mixed up some branches while collecting. EDIT: Apparently C. botryospora is a plurivorous species. I checked the wood anatomy and it indeed appears to be Fagus.

Many thanks to both of you and best wishes,
Gernot

Re : Asexual morph on Fagus

Fagus is possible.

I meet it frequently on Carpinus, Fagus and Hedera.

Hi Alain,

indeed, I just edited my post. :-) At first I saw that it was mostly reported from Carpinus but as it turned out it seems to be a plurivorous species.

Many thanks again!
Gernot

I looked for this fungus all summer and fall but no luck.  Was it on small dead twigs still attached to the tree?

Ja, bitte schicke ihn. Dann kann ich Joey auch eine Abimpfung schicken. Walter

Exactly as you described, Joey – a dead twig still attached to the tree.

Ich schick's dir, Walter!

Best wishes,
