Dark on grasses
Marja Pennanen, 10-10-2016 10:14
Hello forum,

these dark ones on grasses are up to 0,3 mm wide and have light greyish hymenium and seems to represent a genus unfamiliar for me.

The spores are 5-6x2 and have some small droplets.
The asci are 20-30x4-5, IKI blue and paraphyses about 2 wide.
The cells are dark brown, marginal cells remind hairs and are up to 10x2-4.

Re : Dark on grasses
Hi,

could this be a Scutomollisia species?
Looked interned and found the genus. Where to look for descriptions of the species in the genus?

I would look in Pirottaea.

Re : Dark on grasses
Thank you Zotto for showing me the right direction!

Seems, that there is only one Pirottaea species found from Finland: Pirottaea strigosa by Karsten and this is surely not that. Naturally there may be some others with a different genus.

Pirottaea is a new genus for me and seems a big one. Found, that the spores and asci of P. microspora is close, but maybe with a bit wider spores and the marginal cells of my finding are too short to be that.

So, when I go to Helsinki one of these days, I have a hard work to find descriptions of all possible Pirottaeas...

Do you have Nannfeldt's article? I would be surprized if Pirottaea is largely unknown in Finland.

Re : Dark on grasses
Dear Zotto,

there is an ascomycetes list from the year 2000, where the species found from Finland since then are listed. It needs to be updated. Just that basidiomycetes have the focus here and there are very few professionals, who are intrested at all of ascomycetes here.

For instance: there is a new forum coming of the species in Finland (animals, fungi, herbs), acomycetes are not included.  At least yet, I have allready sent a request for them. (It may be, that there are no specialists on the forum yet to be able to determine ascomycetes on a photo basis.)

At that ascomycete list there is only that Karsten species of Pirottaea and I do not  want to spend time and check, if there are some others on a synonym.

With Nannfeld you mean propably: Nannfeldt, J.A. (1985). Pirottaea (Discomycetes inoperculati), a critical review. Symb. bot. upsal. 25(1): ii + 1-41.

No, I do not have it yet.
