On Arundo donax again
Enrique Rubio, 19-05-2016 19:11
Enrique Rubio

Hi again

Could yo help me with this fungus on stems of Arundo donax? I think it is a bitunicate asco with shortly stipitate clavate asci, filamentous pseudoparaphyses and 3-septate brownish ascosporoes with neither gel seath, nor appendages. But the inmersed ascomata are oblong, as in Anthostoma cubiculare (only globose in frontal view), with an excentric obtuse and prominent papilla.

I don't know a good genus for my fungus

Thanks again for your kindly help

Re : On Arundo donax again
Dear Enrique,
some would identify this as a Melanomma such as M. fuscidulum. The latter is however a difficult species complex. I have a paper on such fungi in preparation and will not be able to include your fungus now, but if you send it to me or Hermann and if it turns out to be different from what we have, we could publish it later on.
Saludos cordiales, Walter

Re : On Arundo donax again

Hi Walter

I have considered Melanomma as a possible solution, but the inmersed ascomata growing on not woody sustrate don't fit well with the classic concept of this genus, isn't?

Yes. I'll send you part of my collection

Regards

Enrique

Re : On Arundo donax again
Yes, you are right. M. fuscidulum does not belong to Melanomma.
Thanks for sending. Let´s see what happens.
Best regards, Walter
