Mick PeerdemanHi all,One of my earliest microscopy attempts, so
FRB:
Disc: round, shallow cup-shaped or flat, pale, diameter 1 up to 2 mm, under side clearly hairy (see stipe); tapering to a wire-shaped stipe;
Stipe: diameter 0,1 - 0.15 mm, up to 10 mm long, brown, the under side of the disc as well as the stipe are covered with whimsical, pointed hairs (in humid state the hairs are not visible)
Asci: 8-spored, cylindrical, uniseriate; inamyloid with croziers; 86,79-97,38 x 6.83-10.83 µm
Spore: hyaline, amygdaloid, smooth, 8.08-10.53 x 4.4-5.71 µm; Q = 1.79
Paraphyse: cylindrical/ filiform; 90,85 x 2.58 µm, septated, somewhat constricted to the septs; broadening towards the top
Hair: 66.67-122,84 x 2.37-4.14 µm wire-shaped narrowing to pointed top, more than 5 septs
Ectal excipulum : under side hairy, textura globulosa, diameter round cells 15,20-29,44 µm
Stipe: strong hairy, textura prismatica.
Taking into account the substrate I think of Ciboria acerina but I find 8-spored asci! In his publication of 1936 H.H. Whetzel also describes one ascus with 8 spores.
What is your opinion, thanks in advance.
Best regards,
François Bartholomeeusen
Hello François,
i am not at home and cannot compare literature, but I would suggest Ciborinia bresadolae (hirtella) because of the hairy outside. This species grows at different substrates, as far as I know.
