Venturiocistella on Vaccinium vitis-idaea stem
Marja Pennanen, 06-08-2014 21:36
Hi,

these are about 0,5 mm wide.
The spores are about 9-12x2-3 and have 2-4 droplets
The asci are about 40-60x7-9 and paraphyses about 2 micrometers wide.
There are both brown and hyaline setae, which are about 50-60x3-4.
The hairs are brown, septate and about 6 micrometers wide.

I found nothing, that would guite fit.

I do not see brown setae, and the hyaline lanceolate structure I cannot interpret.

What about a Fuscolachnum?

Dear Zotto,

I tried to  find one photo, with setae and hairs. There are some in the lower part of the photo. They are different coloured than the hairs and seems to break more easily than others.

The hyaline ones seems glassy. Maybe I should test Koh.

It seems to me a riddle. The brown ones in the lower part of the last pic could be anchoring hyphae or even from another fungus?

Re : Venturiocistella on Vaccinium vitis-idaea stem
I studied another.
The first one went upside down.

You must be right. Those lanceolate, hyaline "setae" are second kind of paraphyses.
The brown setae did not appear propely in the second preparate being underside.
By the way, these may be even 0,8 mm wide when open and marginal hairs are about 50-65x5-6.

Nordic macromycetes 1 does not contain any  Fuscolachnum species, that would fit and that contains descriptions. which I got from Fuscolachnums.

PS: I forgot to check, if I got a PDF-article of Fuscolachnums allready...
Age comes with poor memory ;)
I'll look for the PDF now.

Found it and this is definitely not F. labradoricum or anything Haines presented. Must be something else.
