Pyrenophora?
Garcia Susana, 09-01-2014 11:54
hi all

I found this Pyrenomycete, growing on a herbaceous stem.
I think it may belong to the genus Pyrenophora, but I have no documentation to define the species.
Perithecia up to 600um diameter. With abundant hairs septate, thick-walled, apex rounded and size 400 x 12um.
Asci of 300 x 35um.
Spores, with 5 transverse septa and one or more longitudinal. Measured size up to 72 x 29um.

What do you think about it?
You can send information from the genre.

Thank you, greetings

Susana (Spain)

Re : Pyrenophora?
Hi Susana,

thanks for sending the photos. Your species fits well Pyrenophora polytricha, which is described as having hairy ascomata with 5 septated ascospores. Only the sizes of the ascospores are a bit larger than given in Wehmeyer 1961.

Furthermore I think the substrate is a gras, maybe Scirpus or Triticum. I am not a specialist in "gramines".

regards,
björn
