Durella?
Stefan Blaser, 02-01-2014 14:02
Hello everybody

I would be grateful for any advice on this one.

Substrate:  Strongly rotted coniferous wood

Macro:  Apothecia 0.4 to 0.8 mm, very densely crowded, from distance appearing as a nearly black covering.  Flat discs without margin and without stipe (rather semiimmersed in Subtsrate). Color dark greenish black to dark greenish-brown.

Micro: Asci about 60-70 µm long, J+ blue. Spores 5-7 x 2-3.5 µm, aseptate, mostly asymmetric, slightly pointed at one side. Paraphyses abundant, about 1 µm in diameter, agglutinated, green in mass. Excipulum consists of gelatinized, thickwalled hyphae, green in mass, turning purplish in IKI.

Thanks for any help

Stefan

Re : Durella?
Dear Stefan,

with Zotto's key I arrive at D. suecica.

Best regards
Martin

Re : Durella?
Hi Martin

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I had a look at D. suecica and it generally seems to fit quite well microscopically. However, the dark, nearly black color seems to be a bit strange, but may be variable. I will try to find some more descriptions of D. suecica.

Best regards
Stefan

Re : Durella?
Hi Chris

Yes, this is indeed very helpful. The black, crowded apothecia fit perfectly.

Thanks a lot

Stefan
