Another ascomycete on Juniperus wood
Lepista Zacarias, 23-08-2015 02:50
At the first sight it is similar to the one posted here ("Ascomycete on Juniperus wood"; id 37442) and it was found in a similar habitat, a cliff over the see with Juniperus as the only vegetation. However, the spores are different. Here are some details of this one:
- Ascoma with perithecia, walls carbonized;
- Asci 8-spored, with dimensions up to 95 x 21 um;
- Spores first hialine, soon grey-brown, 3-septate, the septa thicker with age, some distoseptate, with dimensions:
(16.9) 17.4 - 20.3 (25.2) x (7.3) 7.7 - 9.3 (10.6) um
Q = (1.8) 1.9 - 2.5 (3) ; N = 38; Me = 19.1 x 8.5 um ; Qe = 2.3 .
- All parts with negative reaction to melzer; However, some very diffuse bluish tone appeared and the spores become clearly distoseptate.

I attach some photos of the specimen and of the corresponding microscopy.
Any help about any of them is welcome.
Thanks in advance,
zaca

Hello,
we just submitted a paper containing very similar fungi, but if you want you can send me the sample for sequencing.
Best regards, Walter

Re : Another ascomycete on Juniperus wood
Dear Dr. Walter Jaklitsch,
Thanks for your message and for your interest. Next week I will send a part of the collected specimen.
I hope it's not too much to ask, but you can send me the preprint publication that mentioned in your message.
Best regards,
zaca

Re : Another ascomycete on Juniperus wood
Thanks. I sent off the draft less than 2 weeks ago. You will understand that it cannot be made public before acceptance by the journal. It will however be open access and I hope it still comes out this year.
Best regards, Walter

Re : Another ascomycete on Juniperus wood
Dear Walter,
OK, I understand, but it could happen that you had a preprint available, not the paper you submited to the journal.
