Help id.-ing Nectria-like fungus?
Fraser Higgins, 21-12-2023 12:46
Hello, I'm entirely new to this forum, ascomycete id. and id.-ing using microscopy. I recently found some Nectria-like fruiting bodies on a barkless area of a Sambucus nigra, that I'd love to identify. Im currently unable to see the spores at any higher magnification than shown (though messing around with extension tubes I might be able to go a little further). Found on the West coast of Scotland.
Am I capturing enough information to narrow down the id.?
Is the greening around the fruiting bodies lichenous algae?

Note: some of these photos have been focus stacked.
Note: this has also been uploaded to inaturalist.org/observations/190668509 with location info and more photos at higher resolution.
