Anamorph on an olive tree
Josep Torres, 18-01-2026 12:24
Josep TorresHello.
An anamorph located on the surface of a thin stem of an olive twig (Olea europaea), in decomposing soil.
Spherical ascomata, with a surface covered in black hairs, measuring 0.2 to 0.3 mm in diameter (excluding hairs).
Outer hairs strongly pigmented, with few septa, thick walls, and a slightly more hyaline tip, with a length close to the diameter of the ascoma. Hyphae of the outer wall angular in texture, strongly pigmented.
Short conidiogenous hyphae arranged parallel to each other, suggesting a radial distribution in some images, measuring 17.3 to 25 µm in length and 2 to 3.4 µm in width.

These hyphae produce cylindrical conidia with slightly pointed ends, measuring the following in water:
(13.7) 14.4 - 18.3 (19.8) × (2.5) 2.7 - 3.4 (3.5) µm
Q = (4.2) 4.7 - 6 (6.2) ; N = 30
Me = 16.5 × 3.1 µm ; Qe = 5.4
Any feedback you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
Best regards.

These are pycnidia with setae, a "coelomycete." I don't know what it is but I can help you find literature if you want me to. Do you know of Icones Generum Coelomycetarum? These are an identification guide with amazing drawings of all sorts of coelos and it might at least help you get to genus. If you want scans of them I will send you a link to my Google Drive so you can download them.

Dear Jason

Could you send me also the link to Icones Generum Coelomycetarum?
That would be helpful, I am already looking for that publication for some time.

best regards, Eduard

Hello!
I would also be interested about finding out what is this genus. I have a similar find from old Zea mays (corn) stalk debree from March 2024, Slovenia.
Best regards!

Hi Jason.
Of course I'm interested. I've sent you an email; could you send it to me there?
