Zuzana Sochorová (Egertová), 07-09-2025 11:34
Zuzana Sochorová (Egertová)Hello,
I have identified this fungus as Hymenoscyphus vacini, but would like to have it confirmed.
Ascospores (19.3)19.6-20.5-21.4 (23.5) × (5)5.3-5.5-5.7 (6) µm, Q = (3.39) 3.50-3.73-3.91 (4.39); n=30.
Asci bb, H-, 95-110 x 10-11.8 µm.
Hyphae on receptacle have dark incrustations.
On strongly decayed leaves of Acer, Moravia, 6 September 2025.
Thank you, Zuzana

Re : Hymenoscyphus vacini
Hello Zuzana,
I would determine this the same way, I sometimes find this on leaves of Acer pseudoplatanus. Was ist A. pseudoplatanus, too?
Surely Zotto will also write - I hope he will agree :-)
Yours, Lothar

Fully agreed. Very characteristic is the net of brown cortical hyphae on the excipulum. Also the growth on sceletonized leaves.

Hi Lothar and Zotto,
many thanks to both of you!
Yes, the substrate was Acer pseudoplatanus and the fungus grew in incredible amounts in the locality - there were thousands and thousands of apothecia.
Best regards,
Zuzana

There is only one unpublished sequence (ITS), from HB 9590, which has no match in GenBank, even for an environmental sequence of that species.
