asco on stone
Dragiša Savic, 13-03-2024 14:09
Lichens and parasites on them are not close to me, and this may be something close to that. The stone was on the ground, with some moss but no visible thallus of any lichen. Black small perithecia (0,15-0,20mm diam.) were at one end and around them only these, I guess green algae. Spores resemble Lichenochora in shape.
Any help is welcome

thanks
Dragiša

Re : asco on stone
Hallo,

it could be a member of Verrucariaceae like Thelidium minutulum Körb., which is a typical pioneer on small stones

Hello Dragiša,
I don`t have a determination for you.
But I think the orange color is because of Trentepohlia green algae becoming free because the "cultivating" lichen fungus is dying.
Best, Lothar

Re : asco on stone
I guess no trentepohlioid algae are present in the last microphoto, and the brick colour on th fiirst picture is that of the stone, is it a weathered piece of brick? or of roof tile? or is it a volcanic or metamorphic pebble rich in iron oxides?

Re : asco on stone
Thanks, that's right, I didn't even look at Verrucariales.

Re : asco on stone
It's a piece of brick, not a stone, I see now.
