perithecioid ascomycete - ascospores with setulae

We found a perithecioid ascomycete on Gregorella humida with ascospores with setulae at both ends. In this group I know spores with setulae only in Lichenopeltella, but there they are more or less median. Has anybody an idea what genus this could be?

Have you considered Myxophora leptogiophila? It matches well to me.

Thank you very much George!

Myxophora sounds good, I will compare it with leptogiophila. At least Gregorella is also a cyanolichen. Until now I have seen only M. ovalispora, and this does not have these setulae.

Hi,
George is probably right. It's clearly a Myxophora.
It's interesting to read  Hoffmann & Hafellner who described in 2000 one sp. nov. M. apotheciicola differing from M. leptogiicola by growing on apothecia. 1 species ? 2 species ? more ? Having ITS of all these fungi would be great.
Nice fungus indeed.

Re : perithecioid ascomycete - ascospores with setulae
Hi Alain! Our specimen looks indeed like M. leptogiophila, more than M. apotheciicola. But the lenght of the ascospores is in the lower range of the measurements given by Hafellner, the l/b quotient is smalller and I count (3-)4 setulae/appendices per end instead of 2-3 in leptogiophila. So perhaps the specimen on Gregorella represents an own species. We will discuss this!
