Helvella-Dissingia sp in coastal dunes
Marc Detollenaere, 03-03-2024 15:14
Marc DetollenaereDear forum,

In the moss dunes of Bray-Dunes(F),one of my friends  found some brown cupulate fruit bodies with short whitish stem. No ribs were observed. Hymenium brown. Exterior of cup much paler.
Asci were 300-350µ long and IKI neg. No croziers were found.
Spores were ellipsoid, 22-24x12-13µ and contained 1 large guttule and several small ones.
Helvella or young Dissingia?
Any help would be appreciated.

Marc

Re : Helvella-Dissingia sp in coastal dunes
You should look at the base of asci and confirm the absence/presence of crozier, this the best way to separate Helvella from Dissingia.

I'm sorry, I didn't pay attention that you mentioned "no croziers". So Dissingia leucomelaena is highly probable. Check with your friends that there were some Pinus trees nearby.

Indeed, Pinus nigra nearby.
Thanks Nicolas
