Orbilia angiosubvinosa
Björn Wergen, 07-02-2024 22:42
Björn WergenHi there,

on attached twigs of Quercus sp, in Althornberg (near Hornberg, BaWü), 03.02.24, we have found small orange discs of various sorts (Orbilia subclavuliformis, Calloria septoseptata). This here might be Orbilia angiosubvinosa, at least the keys led me to that direction (spores are shorter than given in Baral).

spores
(10.5) 10.6 - 12.9 (14.9) × (1.9) 1.94 - 2.2 µm; Q = (5) 5.1 - 6.7 (7) ; N = 16; Me = 12 × 2.1 µm ; Qe = 5.7.

sbs
3.7 - 5.07 (5.1) × 0.5 - 0.8 µm; Q = (5.4) 5.44 - 9.77 (9.8) ; N = 5; Me = 4.3 × 0.7 µm ; Qe = 6.8.

asci approx. (dead) 42 - 55 x 5 µm.

fk 340 - 390 µm diam.

anamorph dwayaangam-like, from natural substrate, middle part 10.0 - 10.5 µm broad.

Opinion?

regards
björn

Re : Orbilia angiosubvinosa
Hi Björn

interesting collection, but difficile matter!

Seems that glassy processes are absent (I guess it is exudate only). I have two folders, GP- and GP+.

What you could clarify: Are there crystalloid SCBs in the paraphyses or excipular cells?

Similar is also O. montigena which always lacked crystalloid SCBs and has Trinacrium conidia. Given that the Dwayaangam belong to the apothecia, this species is excluded.

Zotto

btw. If you want me to include your septoseptata in my MS feel free to send me your docu. The one with 3 septa got an old name: C. faberi Kunze in Rehm.

Here are two photos of excipulum cells, with small crystalloid SCBs, but quite indistinct. The collection is not in a good condition btw
There is O. subclavuliformis on the same substrate, but on another twig, together with its trinacrium anamorph. I have seen the trinacrium anamorph also on the twig with the "O. angiosubvinosa" fruitbodies.

Re : Orbilia angiosubvinosa
2-3 cells in your first pic are alvie and there might be some, but this is not certain to me. There are too few collections of this putative species and only one sequence.
