Unknown disco
Karl Soler Kinnerbäck, 02-02-2024 22:50
Hi!

This discomycete was found on the underside of an ancient, burnt pine (Pinus sylvestris) stump in northern Sweden, august 2022.

Asci 80-100 x 10, IKI+.

Spores 20-30 x 2-4. Young they appear non-septate but later clearly 1, 3 or even 5-septate i think.

Given the rare substrate and the large spores, I found this collection very interesting but could not find an ID. Suggestions welcome!

Best regards
Karl

Re : Unknown disco
Dear Karl,

interesting collection, I saw in 2011 a similar collection (dried from Saxnas)and was also unable to give it a genus name, the spores and asci look Arachnopeziza or Gorgoniceps like, the red pigments were KOH soluable. These days it is perhaps a good idea to sequence the collection.

best wishes,

Stip

Re : Unknown disco
Without vital characters not easy to interpret. But what could be shown in addition is the excipulum.

Hi Zotto, I went back to the collection. Here is an attempt at excipulum.

Re : Unknown disco
Difficult to interpret. A t. porrecta apparently. That woud be untypial for an Arachnopezizaceae. Pseudohelotium or Durela perhaps? Reminds me a bit of Ps. vernale/sordidulum.

Re : Unknown disco
Yes Durella is a good option, in addition some photo's taken in 2011 of what I think is the same species.

Best,

Stip
