Scutellinia peloponnesiaca?
Villalonga Paco, 28-11-2023 23:10
On basic soil in humid bank, Teruel, Spain, around 1600m

4-7 mm very short hairs

Spores:

(19.1) 19.5 - 20.6 (21.1) × (14.5) 15 - 16.1 (16.7) µm
Q = (1.2) 1.24 - 1.35 (1.4) ; N = 35
Me = 20.1 × 15.5 µm ; Qe = 1.3

Very faint "spines"

Hairs:

(115) 149.5 - 214.1 (231.2) µm
N = 26
Me = 183.5 µm

Simple root, width = 14, walls = 2-2.5

5-7 septa

Ascas:

(205.9) 224.1 - 262.1 (274.6) × (15.4) 15.42 - 23.3 (25.1) µm
Q = (9.9) 10.3 - 14 (14.8) ; N = 13
Me = 240.3 × 19.3 µm ; Qe = 12.7

Some with 4 mature spores

I started with S. patagonica, but I'm not convinced. Could it be S. peloponnesiaca?

Re : Scutellinia peloponnesiaca?
Hola Villalobos,
I was watching your post hoping someone might come up with a suggestion.
The general details seem to point to S ahmadii. The description even mentions the fact that the asci often only have 4 mature spores.The size and shape of the hairs and spores look right with signs of quite large warts. Unfortunately the last photo of the stained spores looks more like the very minute warts of S kerguelensis so not completely sure.

Re : Scutellinia peloponnesiaca?
There exists an ITS sequence of the holotype of S. peloponnesiaca, so it could be interested to sequence this collection and compare the two sequences.
