cf. Massarina on Quercus bark
Ibai Olariaga Ibarguren, 20-05-2020 17:29
Dear all,

I am struggling with a small pyreno that I collected on bark of Quercus faginea. The pseudothecia grew gregariously and an rather small, around 0,3-0,4 mm. Asci are bitunicate with a fissitunicate dehiscence, 75-85 x 12-13µm. Spores measure 18-22 x 6-7 µm, hyaline and apparently without a gelatinous sheath. The hamathecium is very dense and composed of branched hyphae. The peridium is 30-40 µm thick.

I have been looking into Massaria. The key of the Massarina monograph leads to Massarina corticola, but the asci and spores of this collection are smaller. Probably not a Massarina at all.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Cheers,

Ibai.

Hi Ibai,
this is a species of the genus Didymella. I have similar collections also from bark of Catalpa bignioides.
cheers
