Urceolella on fern
Juuso Äikäs, 22-04-2020 20:19
I found some Urceolellas on February growing on dead fern stems in a moist place. That time they were still immature but I stumbled on the same place again and now there were some mature ones.

The glassiness of the hairs dissolved after heating in 3% KOH. The spores measured 7.8-9.8 × 2.2-2.6 µm, amyloid ascus pores. U. crispula seems similar but these don't seem to have the long, tangential hairs that I've seen in many macrophotos.

Could this still be Urceolella crispula or is there some other alternative?

Hi, perhaps Urceolella carestiana agg., look here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5SeyOEkxxZhYVZub0N1aGY5YTg, Helotiales- Hyaloscyphaceae (without VBs)- Urceolella.

Re : Urceolella on fern
Thanks again. Yes, that seems to fit better. They apparently like to grow on ferns which would also fit. Apparently there are versions with clearly larger spores as well.
