Volutella ciliata/Volutellonectria ciliata
Malcolm Greaves, 26-03-2018 21:29
Malcolm GreavesI found a rotting Daldinia concentrica with small white hairy growths. I could see no asci and talked myself into seeing what looked like a basidia. It was suggested that they were the asexual stage of Volutella ciliata. Amongst the apothecia were one or two Nectria like perethicia. The spores look too big for Volutellonectria ciliata. Can anyone make a suggestion as to what they might be.
Thanks
Mal

Re : Volutella ciliata/Volutellonectria ciliata
Hi Malcolm,
I think the Volutella is not connected to the cosmospora-like, which could be  "Cosmospora" flavoviridis.
To be sure about the connextion asexual-sexual morph you should culture the ascospores of the teleomorph.

Regards,
Christian

Thanks Christian. Comospora looks good. I think the culturing is probably a bit beyond me.
