In New York City on a branch of Sassafras. (Whalleya microplaca was present on the same branch).  Black globose fruiting bodies erumpent through the bark, 1-2mm in diameter, some growing confluent, somewhat flattened at the apex, with the black pigment becoming lighter in a spot near the apex (ostiole?).  Mustard yellow-orange powdery material in between the perithecia.  Brown spores, ellipsoid to ellipsoid-cylindrical, 9.5-12 by 4µm.  Asci with amyloid apical ring, long stipitate, spore bearing part 52-74 by 5-7µm.  Is this Creosphaeria sassafras?  The spore measurements I took are larger than those in Ellis and Everhart (7-9 x 3µm).  Thank you in advance!
