I forgot to tell you my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!! I think it could be Mollisia fusca, even if KOH reaction should be positive in that taxon (???)

I first thought for Haglundia elegantior but your upper microphoto probabbly shows the subiculum rather than a hairy margin. What is the diameter of the apothecia? H. elegantior has larger spores (*9-15 x 3-3.8 µm). Did you measure in water or Melzer? Dead ascus of 50 x 6 are also too small for H. elegantior.

Important is to see the spore content. Are there any oil drops? The image is not sharp enough.

may be you have two different species? The 2nd picture looks diferent with the blueish hymenium and the darker excipulum.
It is not M. fusca, which looks different macroscopically and has bigger spores - besides the always strong yellow KOH reaction.

It would be interesting to see the shape and size of the outer margin (the excipulum ectale). As Zotto I think your upper micropicture shows elements from the base of the apothecium
It would also be necessary to see the shape and the content of (living) spores.

Ok! before another "micro-study" (tomorrow), I try to answer to all your questions!

Zotto:
- The larger plant is about 3mm
- Spores have been measured in water
- (Why did you say "dead ascus"?? :) )
- You're right, the spores' picture is really bad!!! As already said the spores show few oil drops

Andreas:
- It's the same thing I thought (I'm talking about 2 different species), but The second picture has been done few cm from the first, on the same piece of wood. Do you think it could be another species?
I report the micro-features of the first and third photos.

As i said, tomorrow I'll give you more informations about this collection!!! :)

different species may actually grow very very close together, but colour and other variants of the same species are also frequent and make taxonomy very difficult.

Dead ascus: I suppose you don't joke. Fresh specimens not necessarily contain living elements, and the preparator frequently gives them the rest. Asci put in Melzer rest quietly and will never shoot spores anymore. Actually Melzer causes strong shrinkage to living asci (loss of turgor).

For identification: I miss the margin. There are hairs on the flanks so I suspect there are also some at the margin.

Les dernières photos de spores semblent exclure M. elegantior (forme et guttules). Est-ce que tu as la clé d'Andreas ? Si non, je pense qu'il se fera un plaisir de te l'envoyer.

Non, je n'ai pas abandonné Otidea... je devais prendre un pò de souffle, et j'ai choisi un genre simple!... he he he... :)

Je n'ai pas la clé d'Andreas, ou mieux, j'utilise habituellement cet online. Je sais que il y a une clé dans le dvd de Zotto, mais j'ai toujours pensé qu'il fût le même qu'il y a sur Mollisia.de, est-ce que je me trompe?
