Discostroma sp. on Salix caprea
Gernot Friebes, 17-04-2016 17:48
Here's another difficult fungus (at least for me). I collected it on a dead branch of Salix caprea about 1,5 m above the ground. It should be a Discostroma but I didn't find a species that fits well enough. Ascospores are hyaline, 3-septate (only transverse septa), and measure about 14,4–17 x 6–6,5 µm. There is also an asexual state on the same branch which might belong to the same fungus? As always I'm thankful for any ideas and suggestions!

Best wishes,
Gernot

Hi Gernot,
I guess you checked Brockmann's work (1976), with no avail.
There is something a bit similar with appendaged conidia described from Japan by Hatakeyama & Harada (Mycoscience 2004) but it was from Paeonia, and ascospores are narrower and more fusiform. Your fungus on Salix is likely something different.
Hope someone will propose a better suggestion.

Cheers,

Jacques

Hi Jacques,

many thanks again. I have checked these publications but to no avail. I will now forward the collection to someone interested for further studies!

Best wishes,
Gernot
