I saw this small orange asco in Nevada City, California - it was collected on well rotted wood between 2000 and 3000 feet elevation. The specimen disappeared before it could be scoped. Cups were about 1 mm across. Any ideas on what it could have been? Thanks!

Re : Small orange asco from California
Hello,
this is a Lachnellula species, but without microscopy there is no chance on whatspecies it might have been.
The substrate must have been coniferous wood then ...
If the substrate is definitely decidous wood, then you would be in the genus Capitotricha.
best regards,
Andreas

Re : Small orange asco from California
This looks to me coniferous. In the Sierra Nevada at that altitude I expect mainly conifers (Abies, Pinus). Yes, no chance without microscopy.
