Small disco on sclerotia? on decorticated wood
Masanori Kutsuna, 11-11-2014 00:47
Hello everyone,

I found small discos on sclerotia? on decorticated wood last weeks in Japan.

Sclerotioid body on the surface (or semi-immersed) of rotten, decorticated, trunks of Quercus sp., 1-3 mm. long.
Asci 97-125 x 6.2-8, I-.
Paraphyses branched, curved at the tip
Ascospores ellipsoid, 8.3-14.3 x 2.2-3.0

bar = 100 microns (section1) / 10 microns (others)

Is this a parasitic disco on sclerotia of other species?

Thanks
Masanori Kutsuna

Re : Small disco on sclerotia? on decorticated wood
My first idea was Psilachnum lanceolatoparaphysatum, because the apos sit there also on a black stroma, but that is an anamorph. Only the ascospores are similar otherwise you have a totally different species. No idea of the genus.

The apos are only ca. 200 µm diam?

Thank you for your comment, Zotto.

Yes, The apos are about 200-500 µm diam.
