Hello again,I found this one one wood (Angiospermae) in the Tropical House of the Hagenbeck Zoo in Hamburg.
It is black, coralloid, up to 3 cm wide and 1,5 cm high, with a 2mm wide stalk. Perethecia are 0,2 mm wide. The surface is irregular cracked and warty.
Spores are dark brown with a germ slit. Spores are (11-13) 11,7x4,25 (4-5) µm. Asci up to 110 x 6, IKI positive, blue, porus 4 x 2 µm.
Paraphyses 1,5 µm wide.
I think it is a Xylaria sp.
Thanks for your help
Regards Maren

Re : Unknown Xylaria from the Tropical House
Dear Maren: No doubt, your interesting gathering is a Xylaria species. According to my collection of Mexican xylarias yours is close to X. cf. complanata of the feejeensis-rhytidophloea complex. And see Mycotaxon LXX. p. 77-82. 1999; descriptions of X. complanata and X. rhytidophloea in San Martín 1992. A Mycofloristic and cultural study of the Xylariaceae of Mexico. Doctoral Thesis. 560 pp.; Lloyd 1924. Myc. Notes # 71. Myc. Writ. 7 (6): 1237-1268; and Dennis R.W.G. 1957. Kew Bull. 1957. 297-232.
