Orange Discs on Araucaria araucana
Peter Thompson, 05-04-2013 11:25
Hello Everyone,

I have been sent a sample consisting of slightly sunken orange discs on Araucaria araucana (monkey puzzle tree). It was collected because it was thought to be a Stictis.

The microscopy revealed long, multiply branched conidiophores and 3- 5-septate conidia.

A photograph of the (unfortunately) dried discs and a sketch of the microscopy are attached.

I wonder if anyone has also collected this brightly coloured fungus only to find that it was immature? If so, have you any idea as to the identity of it?

Thank you,
Peter Thompson.

Perhaps a Fusarium?

Re : Orange Discs on Araucaria araucana
Hello Zotto,

Thanks for your reply.

Fusarium was a genus which I was considering for this. I think that many are the conidial states of species from the Hypocreales and that they often need culture preparation to determine their identities.

Best wishes,
Peter.
