Hypocrea peltata and Hypocrea mesenterica

I have found hypocrea peltata in Florida and Louisiana a number of years ago.  Perhaps 10 years ago I was shown a collection of Hypocrea mesenterica.  From memory if the identifications were correct they looked very similar.   I have a collection of a Hypocrea from Western Pennsylvania, collected on 9/27/2012.  The dried material is about 6cm across X 3cm and about 2 cm in height.   It looks to be one of them.  I have 2 papers on Hypocrea peltata but I could not locate one on H. mesenterica.  Is it possiable to tell these 2 apart just using a microscope?  I would like work on it this week.   Anyone know the spore sizes for Hypocrea mesenterica?

Thank you,
John

Re : Hypocrea peltata and Hypocrea mesenterica
Hi,
H. mesenterica is a synonym of H. peltata according to
Gary J. Samuels and Adnan Ismaiel 2011. Hypocrea peltata: a mycological Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde? Mycologia 103: 616-630.

Best regards,
Walter

Thank you Walter.  I looked over the paper and it explained a lot.  I looked at it under the scope tonight and its a perfect fit.
