Small disco on Quercus
Masanori Kutsuna, 04-12-2012 01:26

Hello everyone,

Disco on twigs of Quercus sp. found in October, Japan.
Fruitbody 3-8 mm. in diam, stalked.
Asci 8-spored, IKI+, 7-8.6 x 102-120 microns,
paraphyses filiform, sometimes brown.
ascospores long elliptical, sometimes inequilateral, smooth, hyaline, with small drops in each end, 3.0-3.5 x 11-13 microns.
Ectal excipulum thin-walled, prismatic cells,
medullary excipulum interwoven hyaline hyphae,
surface hyphae with roughend by brown granules.

It lools  like Rutstroemia firma, but ascospores are aseptate, form short germ tube.
I'd appreciate your advice.

Re : Small disco on Quercus
I wanted to suggest Moellerodiscus lentus but that genus has globose excipular cells.

A prismatica in combination with small spores with few small oil drops sounds unusual.
