Orbilia on Juniperus communis
Marja Pennanen, 12-02-2011 19:01
Hi,

it's been cold here, about -20 C. Still I went yesterday and picked juniperus bark.
I've seen some Orbilias on them ealier, but only few fruitbodies and rejected them because of something more interesting.
So I found one, but now see on the photo, that they were two:

They are tiny, 0,2 mm wide.
The spores are about 4-6x1-2.
I took many photos, but only a couple with 500x magnification shows them:

The asci are about 35-40 (-50?) x 5-6 and paraphyses 2-3 wide.

There seem to be something on the asci and paraphyses.

Re:Orbilia on Juniperus communis
Did you look for the spores: do they have a drop only at one end? The asci do not look truncate, or?

Not sure if an Orbilia at all.

Re:Orbilia on Juniperus communis
Hi,

I've marked drops in one end, besides in one spore in both ends ;)
The asci were clavate, not truncate.
I'll see, if I can find them more. But only when the weather is milder, which means: not very soon.
Yesterday I got frostbites to my toes.
