Bitunicate pyreno on bark of Salix
Gernot Friebes, 21-02-2010 11:34
Hi,

I'm not able to determine this bitunicate pyreno despite the quite conspicuous characters. It grew on the bark of a big, living Salix. The ascomata are black, globose, partly immersed, glabrous, carbonaceous and the ostioles are roundish to slightly slit-like. The spores are 22-24,5 x 10-12 µm big, two-celled, constricted at the septum, with two big oil drops in every part, hyaline, rough. The asci are up to 160 x 13 µm, bitunicate, four-spored (at least I have not seen any asci with more spores), very long and the spores are uniseriate. There are filiform paraphyses.
In my literature I didn't find anything related to my find...

Best wishes,

Gernot

Hi Gernot,
maybe an immature Didymosphaeria or something like this?

Hi Gernot,
I don't know this fungus, and ascospores are not typical for Pleosporales. I have the feeling it might be a lichenized taxon.
Jean Pierre, any idea?

Hi Christian und Jacques,

thank you! It could be immature but actually I had the feeling that it was quite mature. A lichenized taxon? Why not, I learned that everything is possible with these fungi. :)

Best wishes,

Gernot

Hi Gernot,
More one year later, I have perhaps the solution : Acrocordia gemmata.
Have you a photo showing vertical cut ? It would be easier to see if it"s refering to that genus.
Another way to verify : go towards Quercus and check it on the bark. Acrocordia gemmata is very very often there with Hysterium pulicare. You will be able to compare.

Hi Alain,

thank you! I have already found the name of the species thanks to you: http://www.ascofrance.fr/index.php?r=forum&page=viewtopic&id=13318&highlight=acrocordia#msg13324.

I have photos of a rather thick section, maybe they help. It also seems to be common in my area because I could find it several times now, also on Populus.

Best wishes,

Gernot
