White disc on Dipsacus with resin deposit on paraphyses
Marc Detollenaere, 05-05-2023 10:31
Marc DetollenaereHello Forum,
Yesterday I found some small white discs on old stems of Dipsacus pilosus. They measured only 400-450µ, were substipitate and cupulate.
The excipulum was composed of text angularis and partly gelatinized text intricata.Asci were long stalked 45x3.5µ. Most PF had a resin deposit on the top and measured 46x2.5µ. IKI neg.
Only few hyaline spores were seen 5.8x2.1µ, none in the asci.
I thought it would be an easy one with the deposits on the paraphyses but no.
Any ideas?
Marc

This is an Orbilia, perhaps O. cardui (which is not at all confined to Carduus!).

Thank you very much Zotto.
I didn't recognize it at all as an Orbilia due to the absence of really swollen tips of the paraphyses and the urceolate form of the fruit bodies but if fits well with the description in your book. Only the spores I measured are a bit broader than yours
