Hi,

I'd need your help with this anamorph. I found it on old leaves of an unknown little plant and it has very striking, brown, 3-septate conidia (up to 17 x 3 µm) with long appendages (up to 10 µm). I think I have seen this species some time ago but I can't remember a name.

Best wishes,

Gernot

Re:anamorph
Hi Gernot,

to me it resembles the anamorph of Heterosphaeria patella (Heteropatella-state).

Regards

Hermine

Hi Hermine,

thanks for you response! So you mean Heteropatella bonordenii? Unfortunately I can't find proper informations about this fungus, maybe you have a description of it?

Best wishes,

Gernot

Re:anamorph
Hi Gernot,

I have once found it myself on Angelica sylvestris, but I have no photo. I remember, that the conidia were app. 30 µm including the appendages. I looked it up in Ellis & Ellis, picture 1350. There is also a description in Rehm, the Rabenhorst Flora, p. 199, which you know you can find in cyberliber http://www.cybertruffle.org.uk/cyberliber/index.htm. The original pictures of Tulasne are on Gallica, http://gallica.bnf.fr/, Tulasne, Selecta Fungorum Carpologia Table XVIII, but they are badly scanned. Send me a mail if you want a scan of something :-)

Regards Hermine

P.S.: Hast Du das auch in Kaisers Jagdgebiet gefunden? :-)

Hi Gernot,

the current name is Heterosphaeria patella (Tode) Grev.. You will find Saccardo's Latin diagnosis of this fungus in the Index fungorum:
http://www.indexfungorum.org/Names/NamesRecord.asp?RecordID=186470
Just click on "Page Image in Published List".

Cheers,
Martin

Re:anamorph
Hi,

@Hermine: unfortunately both in Ellis & Ellis and in Rehm the appendages are too short. Did your find fit with my collection? Maybe the length of the appendages is quite variable. Other than that, I found my fungus on old leaves and not on an Umbelliferae.
Und ja, auch der Fund ist aus dem Jagdgebiet :)

@Martin: Saccardo's diagnosis seems to refer to the teleomorph but I am looking for descriptions of the anamorph. Heteropatella is, as far as I can see it, mentioned at the end but without description.

Best wishes,

Gernot

Re:anamorph
Hi again,

due to Martin's help I think I found a fitting species: Discosia artocreas. Here is a very good description: http://www.mycobank.org/MycoTaxo.aspx?Link=T&Rec=180638

I am very grateful to both of you! ;)

Best wishes,

Gernot

Re:anamorph
Gernot,

as I realised today - very nice coincidence - Discosia artocreas was found in the Botanical Garden in Frankfurt in July on dead leaves of Fagus sylvatica. I can send you something to compare, if you want.

Regards Hermine

Hi Gernot,
this meets it very well, I think! Good point to start! (if not to succeed ;-) )

Cheers,
